    • PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an artificial marble, which is a highly value-added product manufactured from a recycled waste of polymethyl methacrylate products having an excellent optical characteristic, and its manufacturing method.
      SOLUTION: A recycled waste such as rejects and scraps of a highly transparent polymethyl methacrylate sheet for an industrial use such as a polymethyl methacrylate light guide plate of a liquid crystal display device, which has a refractive index of 1.47-1.53, an average molecular weight of 30,000-150,000, and an excellent optical property, is used for manufacturing the platy artificial marble. The method contains a process for recovering one or more kinds among rejects, scraps, and a processing dust of a highly transparent acrylate sheet for an industrial use and grinding them by a grinder to have a maximum diameter of ≤10 mm, a process for preparing a polymethyl methacrylate syrup which is a basic resin of the artificial marble, a process for preparing a mixture of raw materials having viscosity of about 2,000-20,000 cP, and a process for continuously manufacturing an artificial marble plate with a thickness of ≤1 mm by feeding the mixture of the raw materials into a mold of a continuous molding machine and reacting at 30-100°C for 10-100 minutes.
