    • PURPOSE:To increase the degree of freedom in the process of forming a monomolecular film on water by Langmuir-Blodgett technique by using a dual pair ion-type spiropyran compd. which is subjected to ring-opening reaction by irradiation of UV ray, etc. CONSTITUTION:When a monomolecular film is formed on water by Langmuir- Blodgett technique, a dual pair ion-type spiropyran compd. which is subjected to ring-opening reaction by irradiation of UV ray, heat, or solvent is used. The spiropyran compd. has a dual pair ion structure and forms an association. Thereby, the monomolecular film of dual pair ion-type spiropyran compd. having 1-3 long chains of hydrocarbon chains has higher stability on water. By accumulating these stable monomolecular films, a good thin film can be obtd. In the plane of the monomolecular films, the degree of freedom of the spiropyrane compd. is increased compared to a solid-phase built-up films, and therefore, an associated matter can be formed with such compds. having weak dipole- dipole interaction and hydrophobic interaction.
