    • PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To easily realize the stabilization of furnace operation at a low cost. SOLUTION: The required ratio Y of the quantity of heat at the base surface of furnace casing of the ordinate is the value obtained by dividing the necessary quantity Q1 of heat per 1 m2 of the furnace bottom when the operation is resumed after the furnace is stopped for eight hours by the quantity Q2 of heat supplied per 1 m2 the furnace bottom in ordinary operation and the required ratio 1.0 of the quantity of heat at the base surface of the furnace casing is in the case of Q1=Q2. The quantity Q2 of heat supplied per 1 m2 of the furnace bottom is made proportional to the amount of the produced melt, i.e., the amount of the pig slag recovered from a tap hole. The relation of X and Y is expressed by formulas Y=2.6930-0.45307μlog10(X). Y>=1.0Xmax=5454. From these formulas, the value of Y meeting the amount of tapping (production scale of the furnace) X per day is determined and further, the necessary quantity of heat to the furnace bottom is calculated from the value of Y. The amount of feeding the ferrous scrap into the furnace meeting the necessary quantity of heat is determined and the ferrous scrap of at least this amount of feeding is fed into the furnace.
