摘要： PURPOSE: To make it possible to obtain a high-accuracy optical filter which shuts off IR rays and permits the transmission of visible rays by including a wide-band optical filter having a first visible region flex point wavelength and a cholesteric liquid crystal notch filter and forming the notch filter in such a manner that the notch includes the flex point wavelength. CONSTITUTION: The optical filter 2 includes the IR absorption filter element 10 and the cholesteric liquid crystal element 12. The cholesteric liquid crystal element 12 includes the first cholesteric liquid crystal element 15 and the second cholesteric liquid crystal element 20. The respective films 15 and 20 are a pair of cholesteric films matched to reflect left-hand circularly polarized light and right-hand circularly polarized light, respectively, over a certain band width. The IF filter element 10 shuts off the transmission of the light over most of the IF spectral region and the shutting off of the transmission of the IR light starts at the point of the flex point wavelength slight above the near visible region IR rays of a wavelength λ0 . As a result, the combined filter turns to the wide band width filter having such accuracy which is not obtainable heretofore.

摘要： PURPOSE: To provide a light and compact device obtaining a clear image by utilizing a cholesteric liquid crystal component and combining two images made incident from different directions CONSTITUTION: As for a combiner component 30, a conventional circular polarizer and a combiner are replaced with one component, and the component 30 is constituted of the monochromatic light of circularly polarized light, for example, the cholesteric liquid crystal component reflecting green light circularly polarized couterclockwise. An outside image 32 being a first image is transmitted in the line-of-sight direction of an observer 46 by the component 30. A source 34 being a second image is a CRT outputting the green light, and the green image is reflected by the component 30 and transmitted to the observer 46. Thus, the image 32 and the CRT image are clearly combined, and the same device can be obtained in the case of red and blue.

摘要： PURPOSE: To make a device compact and light-weight and to improve the image transmission rate by providing a half-reflection concave mirror or its holography analog and a cholestric liquid crystal element. CONSTITUTION: An optical collimation device 30 is provided with a half- reflection concave mirror or its holography analog 42 and a cholestric liquid crystal element 44 which is formed so as to reflect an RHCP(Right-Hand Circularly Polarization) image in a band B having the center at an approximately primary frequency (f). An external image 32 is transmitted to the half-reflection concave mirror 42 by a transmitter/combiner 40 and is transmitted to the cholestric liquid crystal element 44 by the half-reflection concave mirror 42. Thus, an excellent image transmission efficiency is obtained because the frequency in reflection transmission is low and the cholestric liquid crystal element 44 can transmit and/or reflect incident light in a high ratio.

摘要： PURPOSE: To improve the contrast/transmittance by providing a cholesteric liquid crystal element to be functioned as an image shutter device while allows the selective transmission of the respective parts of images to an observer or shuts off the same in combination with an LCD to be installed. CONSTITUTION: While the cholesteric element has an extremely high transmittance to light exclusive of a band width B (green), the element is capable of reflecting 90% of the light exclusive thereof. The cholesteric element 54 reflects the RCHP(right hand cholesteric) green light emitted by this characteristics and allows the transmission of the LHCP(left hand cholesteric) image to the controllable type LCD 56, thereby forming the image from an image source 52 as left hand circularly polarized light. The LCD 56 allows the transmission of the image as it is without attenuation when a specified voltage level is impressed thereon. The LCD converts the transmission image into the RHCP by another voltage level. When the light of the circularly polarized light is reflected by a beam splitter 58, etc., the inversion of the polarization direction is made possible. As a result, the attenuation is lessened and a high contrast ratio of the image with respect to the background image and a high transmittance of the image are obtd.

Thus, the separate information is simultaneously provided to the separate viewer.

摘要： PURPOSE: To make an image projection device simple and low-cost by using cholestric liquid crystal elements in a composer to increase the transmittance of an image from external circumstances and the reflectivity of an image projected to them. CONSTITUTION: Cholestic liquid crystal elements 26 and 28 reflect right-handed circularly polarized(RHCP) light and left-handed circularly polarized(LHCP) light in a band having 540nm as the center. Ninety % or more of RHCP light out of fluorescently coated green light, which has a band width having 540nm as the center, from an image source 22 like a CRT is reflected by the element 28 and is recognized by an observer O. Meanwhile, LHCP light passes the element 28 and is reflected by the element 26 and is reflected by the element 28 and doesn't reach the observer O. Thus, >=90% light-transmittance is obtained for light from external circumstances except green light of about 540nm. Consequently, the transmittance and the reflectivity are improved to make the composer simple and low-cost.
