    • PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a constant-velocity universal joint excellent in rolling fatigue characteristics, which has machinability equal to or more excellent than that made from a conventional Pb-added free-cutting steel without necessarily containing a free-cutting constituent such as Pb and without deteriorating cold and hot forgeability, and besides, uses a machine-structure carbon steel superior in properties after having been nitrided at least in a part.
      SOLUTION: The constant-velocity universal joint is provided with an outer member having a plurality of guide grooves in an inner circumference, an inner member having a plurality of guide grooves in an outer circumference, torque transmission balls arranged in a plurality of ball tracks respectively which are formed in the guide grooves of the outer member and the inner member, and a holder for holding these torque transmission balls. The outer member and the inner member are made from a steel material which contains a graphite phase in an amount of 5 mass% of the C content or more when the members are formed, and make remaining graphite particles and holes originating from graphite, which exist in an surface layer part after the members have been induction-hardened and tempered, controlled into circle-equivalent diameters of 7 μm or smaller.

    • PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To improve the fatigue characteristics of steel components for bearing to which hardening treatment is applied and which can be suitably used for bearing inner and outer rings, bearing balls, etc.
      SOLUTION: The steel components for bearing are constituted by using a steel stock which has a composition consisting of, by mass, 0.6 to 1.5% C, 0.1 to 1.0% Si, 0.1 to 1.5% Mn, ≤0.1% Al, 0.05 to 2.0% Cr and the balance Fe with inevitable impurities. Hardening treatment is applied to the steel stock in which, when the number of carbides in the steel is arranged using a histogram at a pitch of 0.2 μm grain size, a frequency rate is ≤0.28 over the whole grain size range. The old austenite grain size in a hardened surface layer part after the hardening treatment is made to ≤3.5 μm.
