    • PURPOSE: To remove the scale on the surfaces of a stainless steel strip subjected to cold rolling and annealing in dissolving cells at a high speed by successively electrolyzing the chromium and iron in the oxide scale formed on the surfaces of the stainless steel strip and specifying the moving speed of the steel strip. CONSTITUTION: The stainless steel strip 1 subjected to cold rolling, annealing and cooling is introduced into the electrolytic cell 2 contg. an aq. neutral salt soln. The aq. soln. of Na2 SO4 , etc., having pH of about 6 is filled in the electrolytic cell 2 where the chromium in the scale is dissolved in the form of Cr2 O7 . The steel strip 1 is washed in a water washing tank 4 and is thereafter introduced into the electrolytic cell 6 contg. an aq. alkaline soln. The aq. soln. of NaOH, etc., is filled in this electrolytic cell 6 where the chromium oxide in the scale is dissolved away in the form of CrO4 . The steel strip 1 is introduced into the electrolytic cell 10 contg. an aq. nitric acid soln. after the water washing. The Fe(III) in the scale is converted to Fe(II) which is eluted as Fe in the soln. The scale on the surfaces of the stainless steel strip 1 are completely removed by three kinds of such electrolytic treatments. The moving speed of the steel strip 1 is specified to >=100m/min.

    • PURPOSE:To produce the annealed stainless steel strip which is free from scale by heating the cold rolled stainless steel strip in a direct fire furnace of a reducing heating gas, then subjecting the steel strip to an anodic electrolysis in an aq. neutral salt soln. and further to a cathodic electrolysis in a nitric acid ion-contg. pickling soln. at the time of annealing the above-mentioned stainless steel strip to soften the material quality. CONSTITUTION:After the stainless steel strips 6 which are provided with work hardening and work strains by the cold rolling are successively welded by a welding machine 2, the steel strips are heated to and held at >=810 deg.C in the high-temp. atmosphere of a high temp. of >=1400 deg.C in which the air for combustion is reduced to the quantity lower than the theoretical quantity and the content of the reducing gas, such as CO and H2 in the combustion gas is regulated to 3 to 6% and the content of O2 to 0% to provide a reducing property. The steel strip is thereafter cooled down to ordinary temp. in a cooling zone 8. The steel strip is then subjected to the anodic electrolysis treatment in an electrolytic tank 9 contg. an aq. soln. dissolved with Na2SO4 as a neutral salt and thereafter, the steel strip is cathodically electrolyzed, in a tank 13 of nitric acid or mixture composed of the nitric acid and hydrofluoric acid, by which the scale on the surface of the stainless steel strip 6 is completely removed and the annealed stainless steel strip having the excellent surface quality is produced.

    • PURPOSE:To quickly descale a stainless steel strip by anodically electrolyzing the stainless steel strip which has been continuously annealed after cold rolling and has oxidized scale on the surface in a neutral salt aq. soln. and anodically electrolyzing the stainless steel strip in an alkali aq. soln. or immersing this steel strip therein and thereafter cathodically electrolyzing the stainless steel strip in a nitric acid aq. soln. or immersing this steel strip in the mixed aq. soln. of nitric acid and hydrofluoric acid. CONSTITUTION:Oxidized scale formed at a time of annealing exists on the surface of a stainless steel strip 1 which has been continuously annealed after cold rolling and therefore the oxidized scale is removed. The stainless steel strip 1 is passed through the middle part between the negative electrodes 3, 3' in an electrolytic cell 2 housing a neutral salt aq. soln. contg. Na2SO4 dissolved therein and impressed with positive voltage and anodically electrolyzed. This stainless steel strip is passed through a water-washing vessel 4 and thereafter immersed in an electrolytic cell 6 housing an alkali aq. soln. contg. an NaOH aq. soln. introduced thereinto or anodically electrolyzed as an anode between the cathodes 7, 7'. In this case, treatment of either the neutral salt aq. soln. or the alkali aq. soln. may be previously performed. Then the stainless steel strip is passed through a water-washing vessel 8 and thereafter catholically electrolyzed between the anodes 11, 11' in an electrolytic cell 10 housing a nitric acid aq. soln. or immersed in the mixed aq. soln. of nitric acid and hydrofluoric acid. The descaled stainless steel strip excellent in surface luster is obtained.

    • PURPOSE:To reform and uniformize a plating layer on a steel strip by providing a weir which maintains the bath level of a hot dipping liquid and a device for changing the height thereof, etc., to the part above a sink roller and varying the height of the weir upward and downward. CONSTITUTION:A guide roller 10 which can move upward and downward is provided above the sink roller 9 disposed to a hot dipping tank and below gas wiping nozzles 13, 13'. A hot dipping liquid injecting device 16, the weir 18 which maintains the bath level, a driving machine 17 which changes the height thereof, and a controller which commands the driving of said machine are provided between this roller 10 and the steel strip 1. The height of the above-mentioned weir 18 is changed upward and downward in accordance with the vertical movement of the roller 10. The plating liquid 7 sticking to the steel strip wound around the roller 9 is wiped away by the above-mentioned nozzles 13, 13' of this device, by which the plating layer is reformed and uniformized.
