    • PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To improve lighting delay after dark shelf and starting ability at low temperature and to provide a light source with high efficiency and uniform luminance, by providing an auxiliary electrode close to one of discharge electrode and ensuring distance between external guiding portions by forming an electrode on a luminescent region side in the L shape. SOLUTION: A pair of discharge electrodes 4, 5 are provided inside a front plate of an airtight container 1. An auxiliary electrode 6 is provided close to a corner of the discharge electrode 5 in a substantially L shape. The surfaces of the discharge electrodes 4, 5 and the auxiliary electrode 6 are coated with a conductive layer by thick film printing. For driving this flat-plate-type light source, for example, rectangular wave voltage is impressed on the electrode 4, and rectangular wave voltage having phase shifted by a half period is impressed on the electrode 5. Thus, discharge occurs in a discharge space, ultraviolet radiation occurring with discharge excites phosphor to emit light, and the light is radiated outside through the front plate. The auxiliary electrode 6 is connected to the discharge electrode 4 so as to remain same potential via a high resistance, and when the voltages are impressed on the discharge electrodes 4, 5, initially, micro discharge occurs between the discharge electrode 5 and the auxiliary electrode 6.

    • PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To realize, in response to the demands for thinning and lightening a flat-type light source, the flat-type light source that can maintain a discharge current as in conventional cases, and has high luminance, high luminous effi ciency and a large operation margin. SOLUTION: A flat sealed container 1 is composed of a light transmissive front plate 3 and a rear plate 2. Then, a phosphor 4 is applied to the inside surface of the sealed container 1, a discharge gas such as a noble gas or mercury is enclosed in a discharge space 7, at least a pair of discharge electrodes 8, 9 formed by forming their surface shape into a curved or bent surface throughout its lengthwise direction are installed inside the facing side surfaces of the sealed container 1, and a dielectric layer is formed by covering the entire surface of each of the discharge electrodes 8, 9. As a result, since the surface areas of the discharge electrodes 8, 9 can be made large, a flat-type light source that can secure a discharge current as a conventional one, can implement a display without degrading luminance and luminous efficiency, and has an operation margin as stable as a conventional one as well and a long service life can be provided. The surface areas of the discharge electrodes 8, 9 can simply be adjusted by changing their bending angles.

    • PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To enable parallel measurement by one optical apparatus by providing the apparatus with a structure taking out the light emitted from the constructed part of the discharge path of a deuterium lamp from the front and the rear. SOLUTION: A deuterium lamp 1 being a light source has a structure capable of taking out light in two directions and has light taking-out windows 2, 2' and, even if the light emitted from the discharge constricted part of the lamp 1 is taken out in two directions, respective quantities of light are almost equal. The lights emitted in two directions are condensed to incident slits 4, 4' by concave mirrors 3, 3' and spectrally diffracted by concave diffraction lattices 5, 5. The spectrally diffracted monochromatic light is divided into two lights by half mirrors 6, 6' and the respective lights pass through emitting slits 7, 7' to pass through sample analyzing cells 8, 8' to be incident on photodetectors 9, 9' composed of photodiodes and converted to electric signals. The reflected lights from the half mirrors 6, 6' are used as reference lights and incident on photodetectors 10, 10' to be converted to electric signals. By this constitution, a double beam optical system of two systems is obtained and a measuring time can be shortened.

CONSTITUTION:A complex element wire 22 is formed by winding the first metallic wire 20 with the second metallic wire 21 whose diameter is smaller than the first metallic wire. The element wire 22 is wound to form the primary coil 23, and furthermore, the coil 23 is wound to form the second coil 24, so as to produce a complex double coil. The resultant coil is covered with an electron radiating substance which consists of a compound of one sort of barium oxide, strontium oxide, and calcium oxide, and one sort of heat-resisting oxides, so as to form a cathode. The electron radiating substance is stable chemically and hardly reacted with a heavy hydrogen, and furthermore, hardly removed when it is entered in the complex double coil. As a result, a discharge tube of a long service life can be obtained.

Accordingly, the electric discharge passage is lowered and also a cathode luminescent spot is lowered, and the luminescent spot is prevented from moving largely, and the electric discharge is stabilized, and the fluctuation of light is suppressed, and high efficiency and a long life can be achieved.

    • PURPOSE:To decrease fluctuation of radiation brightness so as to improve S/N ratio by arranging a small hole for take-out light, respectively provided in an anode and an anode shield partition, coaxially with a bottleneck small hole. CONSTITUTION:A discharge is performed in such a manner that heavy hydrogen gas strongly emits light by a small hole 7 in a discharge bottleneck part, arranged between a cathode 3 and an anode 4, to radiate a continuous spectrum to an ultraviolet region taken out with radiation light from a light take-out window 9. Since a small hole 5 of the anode 4 and a small hole 8 of a shield partition 2 are arranged on an axial line of the small hole 7, cathode glow light generated in the vicinity of the cathode 3 is shielded by a partitioning plate 6 and not emitted to an anode side, so that brightness distribution of light radiated from the small hole 7 is symmetrical with the small hole 7 serving as the center. Thus, even when a cathode luminescent spot is moved, since the cathode glow light is not taken out simultaneously, stable light with a small fluctuation of radiation brightness can be obtained.
