    • PURPOSE:To realize a joint structure superior in constructiveness of a containment vessel cylindrical wall and the wall of a reactor building without complex arrangement of reinforcement by providing a gap between the cylindrical wall of the containment vessel and the wall of the reactor building and attaching seal members therein. CONSTITUTION:A space in the outside of a cylindrical wall 1 of a containment vessel is partitioned in two component chambers 3, 4 by the partition wall 2 of a reactor building. A gap 5 is provided between the cylindrical wall 1 and the partition wall 2 and a seal member 6 for securing the watertightness and gastightness between the component chambers 3, 4 are installed in the gaps 5. The seal member 6 is composed of steel plates 7, 8 with studs buried in the cylindrical wall 1 and the partition wall 2 respectively and an expandable element 9 sandwiched between them and variations of the width of the gap 5 can be followed up by the expandability of the seal element 9. Further, a shielding plate 10 for satisfying radiation shielding function of the partition wall 2 at the position for covering the gap 5 is arranged. The shielding plate 10 is attached to the partition wall 2 through a support member 11 which follows the variations of the width of the gap 5.

    • PURPOSE:To remove marine life without a mechanical removing system by introducing part of the intake sea water into a condensor to raise its temperature, which is then routed through cooling water tube and sea water pipe inside the condensor to kill the marine life, and thereafter is released after lowering the temperature. CONSTITUTION:The sea water passing through a water pump 11 at a rate of Q leaves a sea water intake pump room to enter a turbine room, and its Q/3 enters a condenser 10 with remaining 2/Q being released. The sea water of the Q/3 is divided by valves 5, 8 into right and left hand side condenser cooling tubes in the amount of Q/6 respectively, and thereafter is joined to pass through a valve 9 to become a reverse flow of Q/3 via a sea water pump 12. When the output of a nuclear reactor etc. is reduced to lower the amount of heat to 1/2 of the normal operation at this time, the sea water of Q/6 in the right and left side cooling tubes is subjected to three times greater temperature increase, and so, marine life inside the condenser cooling tube and sea water pipe are killed and removed in a short time. Meanwhile, as the temperature of the released sea water is limited to T+DELTAT, the impact to the environment can be minimized.
