摘要： PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a light guiding plate which improves brightness of a backlight or a frontlight without heightening brightness of a light source, and a liquid crystal display device utilizing the same. SOLUTION: The light guiding plate comprises many dotted small recessed parts 9 for reflecting incident light from a light source 1 in the direction of a light emitting plane formed on the surface of the light guiding plate 2 opposite to the plane 16 which emits light to a liquid crystal cell. The sectional shape of the dotted small recessed part 9 is made triangular and, at the same time, its sectionally inclined angle is made to be 50-60 deg., and besides the planar shape of the dotted small recessed part 9, seen from a direction vertical to the plane of the light guiding plate, is made to be nearly rectangular or square, and simultaneously a longer side of the nearly rectangular shape or a side of the nearly square shape is arranged almost parallel with the longitudinal direction of the light source.

摘要： PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a back light device which makes it possible to improve light utilization efficiency and to obtain a large-sized back light having high luminance and a liquid crystal display device as well as a process for producing a light transmission plate. SOLUTION: The back light device and liquid crystal display device have a pair of light sources 1 and 1' which emit fine belt-like luminous fluxes, two sheets of light transmission plates 2 and 2' which have incident surfaces to allow the incidence of the fine belt-like luminous fluxes from each of the light sources 1 and 1', light transparent surfaces for emitting the guided light and base surfaces corresponding to these light transparent surfaces and are formed with plural microrods for reflecting or scattering the guided light progressing deep in the direction of the transparent surfaces by repeating the reflection of the incident light from the incident surfaces at the base surfaces and the light transparent surfaces at least on the base surfaces so as to increase the density thereof with a deeper progression from the incident surfaces and a refractive index member 7 which is installed to face the base surface of these light transmission plates 2 and 2'.

摘要： PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To improve a control property of light, to reduce an optical loss and to improve luminance without increasing the luminance of a light source in a light transmission plate of a rear illumination part used for a liquid crystal display device. SOLUTION: Dots 10 consisting of plural partial nearly columns are formed for changing the light from the light transmission plate 2 incident surface to a prescribed angle in the transmission surface direction, and the total value of the whole dots of the area of the dots 10 is made so as to exist within the range of 4 to 12% of the area of the light transmission plate 2 lower surface (dot forming surface 3) of the light transmission plate 2. Further, the arrangement, the sectional tilt angle are provided properly. Thus, a display element is irradiated by the illumination light having a proper angular distribution from a light emission surface.
