    • PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a tunable laser which can be quickly tuned to a desired wavelength.
      SOLUTION: The tunable laser is equipped with a first tunable optical filter 22A which selects a desired wavelength, and a second optical filter 22B which contains a plurality of characteristic wavelengths and has comb-shaped properties. The tunable laser oscillates in a wavelength which is selected by the first optical filter 22A from the characteristic wavelengths possessed by the second optical filter 22B. Furthermore, a phase control means 22E which controls the phase of light, and a light isolating means 22D which isolates selected light and non-selected light outputted from the first optical filter 22A from each other, are provided to the tunable laser. Moreover, the selected wavelength of light is controlled so as to maximize the ratio of signals outputted from the first photodetector to signals outputted from the second photodetector by the use of a first photodetector 23A monitoring an optical output, a second photodetector 23B monitoring non-selected light, and a control system 24 which controls the selected wavelength of the first optical filter 22A and controls the phase control means 22E, and an optical phase is controlled independently of the optical filters so as to maximize the output of the tunable laser.
