    • PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To simply detect a multiple chain nucleic acid in high sensitivity in a neutral to weakly basic pH area used for biochemical examination. SOLUTION: The detection is carried out by bringing a compound emitting substantial fluorescence by mutual action on the multiple chain nucleic acid into contact with the multiple chain nucleic acid. The compound is represented by any of general formulas (I) to (IV) (wherein R 1 and R 3 are each a hydrogen atom or a substituent group; R 4 is an alkyl group; Q is an oxygen atom or an sulfur atom; n is an integer of 0-3; X is a counter ion; q represents a number required for neutralizing an electric charge of molecule; at least one of R 5 , R 7 , R 10 and R 12 represents an electron-donating substituent group in which σp value of Hammett is ≥-1.5 and 6 , R 8 , R 9 and R 11 represent each a hydrogen atom or a monovalent substituent group) and (a) the compound can be kept in substantially colorless and non-fluorescent state in an aqueous solution under conditions protonated in the absence of the multiple chain nucleic acid and (b) the compound is substantially changed to colored state by mutual action to the multiple chain nucleic acid and substantially develops fluorescence by the mutual action when the multiple chain nucleic acid exists under conditions of (a).
