    • PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a material for protecting a buried pipe, which facilitates construction, enables the proper penetration of moisture from the ground, can reduce pressure applied to the buried pipe, and has a proper protective action; and to provide a method for protecting the buried pipe.
      SOLUTION: The material 1 is used to protect the pipe for being buried in the ditch of the ground. In the material 1, waste tire shreds 2 are infilled into a cavity of a waste tire split in two in the radial direction of the tire. The method is employed to protect the pipe for being buried in the ditch of the ground. The method includes: a step of splitting the waste tire in two in the radial direction of the tire; a step of arranging the plurality of waste tires, which are split in two in the radial direction of the tire, in the ditch B of the ground A in such a manner as to set a cut surface in an upper position; a step of infilling the waste tire shreds 2 into the cavity of the waste tire split in two; a step of performing piping on the wheel hole of the waste tire filled with the waste tire shreds; and a step of covering the top of the piping 20 with the waste tire shreds 2a.
