    • PURPOSE:To provide satisfactory ground contact property and high speed durability in a tire having a sheet of belt folded into at least three layers and embedded in the tread portion, by specifying the width of the upper and lower layers of the folded belt, tensile elastic modulus of cord in the belt, etc. CONSTITUTION:A pneumatic tire is provided with a carcass 4 turned back on both end area around a bead core 7 and a belt 2 surrounding the carcass 4 and folded into at least three layers is embedded in the tread portion 1. Cords in the respective layers of the belt 2 in such tire are arranged to sandwich the equator surface of the tire at angle of 5-30 deg. thereto algernatively in opposite directions, and the width of the belt is rendered 80-120% of the width of ground contact on road face. Also, the width of the upper and lower layers of folded belt is made larger than a half width of the belt itself. Further, the cord of the belt is made to have 40-200g/D of tensile elastic modulus, and the tread portion 1 is formed with two main grooves 1a, 1b.

    • PURPOSE:To heighten the durability of a tire, by approximating the inner curve of the cross section of the tire to conical curves which are based on a curve with a radius of curvature determined by a prescribed formula, outside the maximum width of the cross section of the tire, and extend on prescribed points. CONSTITUTION:The inner curve of the cross section of a tire is limited within a region surrounded by conical curves 2, 3 which are based on a curve 1 with a radius (r) of curvature determined by a formulaI, outside the maximum width of the cross section of the tire, and extend on points used for arc approximation or corresponding to the values rhoo, rhob used in the formula and extend on a point located at a distance of + or -4.3% from a point corresponding to the value rhom used in the formula where (r) denotes the radius of curvature of the inner curve of the cross section of the tire, rho denotes the distance between the axis of rotation of the tire and the inner curve, rhoo denotes the maximum distance from the axis of rotation and the inner curve, rhom denotes the distance between the axis of rotation and the end of the maximum width of the cross section of the tire, rhob denotes the distance between the axis of rotation and a point corresponding to 20% of the maximum height of the inner curve and nu denotes the Poisson's ratio of the molded material of the tire.

    • PURPOSE:To prevent stress or strain concentration, by providing a balanced shape for a reinforcing belt layer insertion section in consideration of the influence of the layer and another balanced shape for other sections extending to both side edges of the layer from the maximum width position of the longitudinal cross section shape of the inside surface of a tire. CONSTITUTION:The circumferential tension of the reinforcing belt layer insertion section of a tire which extends between both side edges B, B of a reinforcing belt layer and that of the other side sections of the tire are set in such a prescribed relation to each other that the circumferential tension of the reinforcing belt layer insertion section is higher than that of the other sections. At the side edge of the reinforcing belt layer, the shapes of the portions of the inside surface 5 of the tire are approximated to each other on the basis of film balance so that the shapes of the portions are made continuous to each other. The tension of the reinforcing belt layer insertion section differs from that of the other outer side sections under the preconditions. In the approximation, the preconditions are determined from the modulus of elasticity of the belt and structure of the reinforcing belt insertion layer and the modulus of elasticity of the elastic material of the other side sections to provide the inside surface 5 with a shape of curvatures of radius according to separate prescribed formulae (not mentioned here).
