    • PURPOSE: To reduce the number of parts, to simplify the structure, to make the thickness smaller, and to improve the reliability by successively forming the 1st colored layer, a diffusion layer and the 2nd colored layer on a polarizing plate.
      CONSTITUTION: The diffusion layer 20 is formed on the back side of the 1st colored layer 14 formed by printing on the back side of a polarizing plate 13, and the 2nd colored layer 21 is formed on the back side of the diffusion layer 20. The layer 20 reflects internally light passed through a liqu. crystal cell 11, polarizing plates 12, 13 and the 1st colored layer 14 in a reflection mode and transmits light emitted from a light source 16 for illumination and passed through the 2nd colored layer 21 to the 1st colored layer 14 in a transmission mode. When the thicknesses of the layers 14, 20, 21 are 5W10μm each, fine color display can be carried out in any of transmission and reflection modes.

    • PURPOSE:To increase contrast and eliminate an irregularity in light leak, and to improve the quality of a display by providing a light shield layer which impedes the transmission of light except at a display part in a negative type liquid crystal display element. CONSTITUTION:The light shield layer 12 which impedes the transmission of light is formed on the internal surface of the opposite substrate 4 of the negative type liquid crystal display element except at the display part. Consequently, when light L is irradiated by a light source 11 arranged on the rear surface side, the light L corresponding to a no-display part (background part) is hardly transmitted through the light shield layer 12 and only the display part impressed with a voltage between a display electrode 1 and a counter electrode 3 illuminates. Consequently, a high-contrast display is obtained and there is no irregularity in light leak at the no-display part even when the visual angle to the display screen is varied. Consequently, an element of high display quality is obtained.

    • PURPOSE: To decrease the reflection of light before and behind a color temp. correcting filter layer and to obtain a distinct display by printing directly the color temp. correcting filter layer on a colored layer to be printed on a polarizing plate.
      CONSTITUTION: The colored layer 15 is provided by printing on the rear surface of the polarizing plate 13 and the color temp. correcting filter layer 20 is directly printed on the rear of the layer 15. The layer 20 has the effect of increasing the color temp. of an illuminating light source 14 of, for example, about 2,500°K to ≥3,000°K, more preferably 3,500W5,000°K. The layer 20 is obtd. by adding a coloring agent into a transparent resin such as vinyl chloride resin or vinyl chloride/acryl copolymer resin. The light of light source 14 transmits well the layer 20 and the layer 15 if the layer 15 and the layer 20 are printed to 5W10μm thickness. The distinct observation of the display of a liquid crystal cell 11 is thus made possible.
