SOLUTION: A navigation device 11 detects a distance to a nearest temporary-stop spot in the proceeding direction, based on the present position of a vehicle and its proceeding direction. A brake switch 13 generates an on/off signal, depending on the presence or the absence of braking operation by a driver. An ECU 16 decides whether the vehicle can stop at the temporary-stop spot based on the speed of the vehicle, its reduced speed and the distance to the temporary-stop spot. Then, the ECU 16 drives controllably a speed-reducing device 14 to make the speed of the vehicle decreased, when it decides that the driver executes braking operation and the vehicle cannot stop at the temporary-stop spot.

摘要： PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To control appropriate braking force for preventing the collision of a vehicle. SOLUTION: A electric controller 10 predicts a nearest approach distance between a self-vehicle and a preceding vehicle, by assuming that the preceding vehicle reduces speed at deceleration detected by an inter-vehicle distance sensor 12 and the self-vehicle reduces speed at prescribed assumed deceleration, after it travels at speed detected by a vehicle speed sensor 11 by a free-running time. The electric controller predicts nearest approach time speed, when the distance becomes the nearest of distance approach. An appropriate inter-vehicle distance is decided from the nearest approach time speed and vehicle head time. Target deceleration required for the purpose of securing the appropriate inter-vehicle distance is calculated. When the predicted nearest approach distance is smaller than the decided appropriate inter-vehicle distance, instruction signal is outputted to a brake actuator 40 so that the detected deceleration of the self-vehicle becomes equal to the operated target deceleration.

SOLUTION: There is a certain relationship between the idle run time of each driver and the vehicle head time and between the idle run time and the assumed deceleration coefficient. For example, a driver with excellent smartness has a shorter idle run time and vehicle head time than any other who is inferior in the smartness and has a tendency to operate with a greater deceleration. Also a driver having a composed character has a longer idle run time and vehicle head time than any other who has a quick-temperd character and has a tendency to operate with a smaller deceleration. If accordingly the set distance is decided on the basis of these relationships, alarm can be issued at a timing to suit the braking characteristics inherent to the particular drivers.
