摘要： PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an image reader that can accurately detect stripe noise due to attached dust even when original conveying speed fluctuations include position dependency in the subscanning direction. SOLUTION: The image reader reads an original at each read position at an upper-stream side and a downstream side in the conveying direction to obtain image data DB, DA at each read position. A stripe detection circuit 200 compares the image data DA, DB and outputs black stripe detection data DS denoting that the image data DA includes no black stripe noise when the image data of a plurality of pixels arranged in the subscanning direction are not consecutively coincident with each other by the prescribed number N0 of pixels. In this case, a switching control section 256 of a switching block 250 allows a configuration 255 to select any of the predetermined numbers NA, NB, NC of consecutive pixels when the number of read lines reaches a prescribed number while monitoring the number of read lines counted by a counter circuit 252 to thereby dynamically select the prescribed number N0 of pixels.
