摘要： PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a reciprocating engine of simple structure including a piston ring, which can prevent outbreaks of seizure of the piston ring and abnormal wear of a sliding outer peripheral surface, by improving the shape of the piston ring outer peripheral surface so as to achieve a predetermined familiar shape, keeping the oil holding performance of the sliding outer peripheral surface of the piston ring. SOLUTION: In the reciprocating engine including the piston ring which has an outer peripheral surface connected to an upper surface and a lower surface and formed in parallel with the axial direction of the piston so as to be brought into slide-contact with a sliding surface of a cylinder liner, the outer peripheral surface of the piston ring is provided with a plurality of grooves along the axial direction of the piston in the outer peripheral surface. The plurality of grooves are formed into multiple large grooves, which respectively have a deep depth and a small interval between the grooves, at a certain length from the upper surface side, and are formed into small grooves, which respectively have a depth shallower than that of the large grooves and an interval between the grooves larger than that of the large grooves, in a part close to the lower surface from the part at the certain length.
