    • PURPOSE:To provide a vertical type machine tool which enables high speed operation with high precision for a long time and has extremely high reliability, by a method wherein a machine tool is so thermally symmetrically formed to prevent the occurrence of thermal deformation and is so formed as to perform proper disposing of chips. CONSTITUTION:During machining operation, the center of a main spindle 28 being a heat generating source is situated laterally and longitudinally thermally symmetrically about a main spindle head 26, the main spindle head 26 about a saddle 22, and the saddle 22 about a cross rail 20. At a level above a portion where chips are generated, during a cutting work, a guide surface 16 of the cross rail 20 and a guide groove 24 of the saddle 22 are prevented from being contaminated with chips, and generated chips are easily conveyed out to the outside of a machine through a chip conveyance channel 42. This constitution reduces thermal displacement of the main spindle 28 from a workpiece due to a temperature change to almost zero, enables execution of high operation with high precision for a long time, and provides a vertical type machine tool which has extremely high reliability.

CONSTITUTION:A table dividing apparatus 10 for a workpiece shifts a saddle 16 towards a supporting member 84 on the X-axis together with a table body 30 according to the program incorporated during the stop of working of a machining center, and after a roller 80 installed at the edge part 76 of a rod 72 contacts with a guide plate 86, said guide plate 86 is pressed against the force of a coil spring 78. Then, the inclined surface of a cam member 70 contacts with a roller 68 to turn an arm 58, and the shaft part 36 of an upper plate member 34 is raised, sliding along a sleeve 50. Therefore, the connection between toothed discs 38 and 40 is released, and a pinion 42 and a rack 88 are engaged. Therefore, the desired dividing is permitted by the shift in the Z-axis direction of the saddle 16 through NC control and the shift in the X-axis direction of the table body 30.

    • PURPOSE:To facilitate the exchange of tools, by enabling the separate motion of tool magazines disposed on two levels, and by enabling a tool exchange arm to be turned by 180 deg. and be moved in the direction of the axis of the turning and in a direction perpendicular to the former direction. CONSTITUTION:An upper and a lower magazines 12, 14, in which tools T are housed, are separately rotated around a bearing guide 20 on the top of a frame 19. An arm shaft unit 32 under the piston rod 30 of a fluid pressure unit 28 can be moved up and down. The arm shaft 50 of the unit 32 can be rotated by 180 deg. around the axis of the shaft and be moved in the axial direction. As a result, a tool exchange arm 54 provided at one end of the arm shaft 50 can be turned by 180 deg. and be moved in the direction of the axis of the turning (the axis of the arm shaft 50) or the direction of attachment and detachment of the tools in the axial direction of the piston rod 30. The tools T can thus be moved to the spindle 80 of a machine tool.

    • PURPOSE:To easily drill a hole which has two different tilted angles, respectively, to a workpiece, by tilting a turn base and a swivel slide, not using a tilting rotary table and the like, in a drilling machine to drill a hole tilted to two different directions, to the workpiece. CONSTITUTION:The reference working surface P3 of a workpiece 1 is positioned in accord with the predetermined working height (h), by adjusting a knee 16 in an axis Z. Then, a saddle 20 and a table 22 are moved so as to be corresponded to the distances X1 and Y1 from reference working edges P1 and P2 of a workpiece 1, against each axis X and Y, in order to accord the center point of a hole H1 which is going to be worked, with the crossing point O of axis of turning shaft of a turn base 18 and the reference surface P3 of the workpiece 1, being put on the table 22, which are crossed at right angles to each other. After the above arrangement, the table is moved by pivoting the saddle 20 together with a turn base 18, corresponding to the degree of angle to a tilted angle C1 of a center line of a hole H1 in the horizontal plane X-Y of a workpiece 1. The axis W of a head part of main shaft 28 is tilted at an angle of b1 by the swivel of a slide 26, and then, the hole H1 having tilted angles b1 and c1 is drilled into the workpiece 1 by a tool 3.
