    • PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To obtain a method for drying resin pellets with inexpensive installation cost and excellent heat efficiency and its apparatus. SOLUTION: In a method for drying pellets wherein the pellets 80 are fed from a feeding hole provided on the top part of a hopper dryer 82 and the pellets are dried by circulating a circulating gas prepd. by heating open air at a required temp. in the hopper dryer and the pellets dried to a required water content are discharged from a discharge hole 84 provided on the bottom part of the hopper dryer and are fed into a plastic molding machine, nitrogen gas is fed into the circulating gas circulating in the hopper dryer and it is heated with the circulating gas and is blown into the hopper dryer and the excess circulating gas in the hopper dryer is exhausted by mixing nitrogen 104 from a nitrogen generator 100. As air is gradually diluted in the hot air for heating and drying by mixing the nitrogen, there exists no possibility of accumulating water content and as the nitrogen gas itself hardly contains water content, it is possible to dry the pellets by a method being by no means inferior to the conventional method.

Then, the same plastic is irradiated with the terahertz wave under a condition that gives a similar correlation, and a plastic flow rate is calculated on the basis of the correlation by measuring an amount of residual terahertz wave.

Since the nitrogen gas generated in the nitrogen generator is injected as a carrier gas into a material transporting pipe 66 wherein the nitrogen gas generated in the nitrogen generator is fed into the molder, or fed under pressure to a pressure feed hopper attached to the molder, and the dried granular plastic material neither adsorbs the moisture in the atmosphere, nor receives oxidation owing to the atmosphere on the way of being transported from the hopper dryer to the molder by the nitrogen gas.
