    • PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an apparatus for suppressing sound-signal amplitude, which gives very small quality deterioration of reproduced sounds even if strong amplitude suppression is taken place. SOLUTION: When the sound-signal waveform variation shifts toward a large direction, the amplitude is compressed in a logarithmic or logarithmic-like manner. When the direction of the signal waveform variation reverses, the compression action is stopped, and the continuing waveform is output starting from the amplitude level shown at the stoppage of the compression action. If the amplitude variation shifts toward a large direction again, the logarithmic compression or logarithmic-like compression is started, and such processes are repeated. SOLUTION: An amplitude suppressing circuit includes: a logarithmic compressor 4 for compressing the amplitude of an input signal; an OUTPUT circuit for outside outputting an output signal from the logarithmic compressor 4; a bias control circuit 2 for controlling an amplitude suppression amount and an output potential of the logarithmic compressor 4; and a control signal generating circuit for inputting a bias control signal to the bias control circuit 2. The bias control signal generating circuit includes operational amplifiers 5 and 6 each for inputting the output of the logarithmic compressor 4 to a positive output circuit. A negative feedback circuit is connected to a negative input circuit of the operational amplifier 5. An output of the operational amplifier 5 is connected to a negative input circuit of the operational amplifier 6, and an output of the operational amplifier 6 and the output signal from the input circuit are connected to the OUTPUT circuit. SOLUTION: The sound signal amplitude limit unit includes: an amplitude limit circuit 1 for placing a limit onto a received sound signal; a pre-stage subtractor 2 provided to an output side of the amplitude limiter circuit; a low pass filter 3 for cutting off high frequency components in an output signal from the subtractor; a delay circuit 4 connected in parallel with the low pass filter 3; and a subtractor 5 connected to the post-stage of the low pass filter 3 for providing a processing finished signal. The pre-stage subtractor 2 receives the sound signal and executes processing of subtracting an output signal of the amplitude limiter circuit from the received sound signal. The delay circuit 4 receives the sound signal and carries out delay processing to synchronize the output signal from the low pass filter with the received sound signal. The post-stage subtractor 5 receives the output signal from the delay circuit, subtracts the output of the low pass filter from the received output signal from the delay circuit, and provides an output of the subtraction result.
