    • PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To obtain a flame monitoring apparatus capable of being used in order to monitor a flame generated when hydrocarbon fuel is burnt in a combustion machinery for the purpose of determining the characteristics of the flame, especially, for the purpose of providing the data related to the stoichiometric ratio of a combustion process, pref., in order to enhance combustion efficiency to reduce the production of a contaminant. SOLUTION: A flame monitoring apparatus is equipped with a sensor 10 reacting with electromagnetic radiation emitted by a flame of a narrow wavelength band corresponding to a transition seed, sensors 6, 8, reacting with electromagnetic radiations emitted by flames of a narrow wavelength band corresponding to respectively different non-transition seeds and a CPU 24. The CPU 24 compares the ratio of the output of the sensor 10 to the output of the sensor 6 or 8 and the ratio of the output of the sensor 6 and that of the sensor 8 with stored data to obtain an air/fuel ratio or calculates the correlation coefficient between two sensors among the sensors 6, 8, 10 to obtain an air/fuel ratio.
