摘要： PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To measure more accurately nonlinear constant of an optical fiber to be measured, and decide whether the amount of connection loss of a connection part changed during a measurement.
SOLUTION: A first coherence light L1 of a specified wavelength and a second coherence light L2, having a wavelength adjacent to the specified wavelength are combined, and a combined light L3 is obtained. The intensity of the combined light L3 is changed sequentially and detected. The combined light L3 is made to enter from one end of an optical fiber X to be measured via a unit 8. A transmission light L4 output from the other end of the fiber X is subjected to spectrum analysis to each wavelength component and is then detected. The nonlinear constant measuring method calculates and measures the nonlinear constants of the optical fiber X to be measured, based on the detection result of the transmission light L4 and the detected value of intensity of the combined light L3. The intensity of the transmission light L4 is detected, and this detected value is compared with the detected value of intensity of the combined light L3, thereby deciding whether the amount of connection loss in the unit 8 has changed during the measurement.

The intensity of a transmitted light transmitted, when the frequency of the first modulating signal is swept continuously over a specified range is individually acquired, by changing each frequency of the second modulating signal by a predetermined frequency range into steps, successively. By integrating each intensity acquired in this way, the Brillouin frequency shift is measured.
