    • PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a tympanic membrane thermometer with improved accuracy in respect of a field of a biomedical thermometer.
      SOLUTION: A probe cover for a tympanic membrane thermometer probe is equipped with an approximately tubular body having an opening part for receiving the thermometer probe and an infrared-transmitting window at a distal end part thereof. In one embodiment, a film supporting part extends radially inward from the distal end part of the body and supports an infrared permeating film spanning the window. The film supporting part has an inner edge part that is substantially free from corners turning inward the plane of the window. A plurality of end ribs are spaced apart and disposed about an inner periphery of the distal end part of the body to engage a distal end part of the thermometer probe and form an insulating gap by preventing contact of the film by the thermometer probe. The insulating gap also extends proximally into spaces between the end ribs, reducing thermal contact between the thermometer probe and an inner peripheral face of the probe cover.
