    • PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a new arrangement for synchronizing a gradient generator by making a recompressed volume the same as a recompressed volume of a high pressure pump.
      SOLUTION: A check valve is kept closed at an initial stage of a pumping stroke of a first piston by which fluid is compressed at a finite volumetric elastic module, and a second piston provides all flows at fixed rotation speeds. When pressure in a cylinder of the first piston reaches delivery pressure once, and a delivery check valve opens, a control system is changed over to a constant pressure control mode to maintain a flow rate at a fixed value. When the delivery check valve of the second piston is closed and pump control is returned to fixed rotation speed, constant pressure control is switched off again. Angular displacement making the control mode changeover effective is determined by monitoring delivery pressure, and storing a value of angular displacement at which the first-grade time differential of pressure is remarkably changed.

    • PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a high pressure reciprocating pump having an improved arrangement for synchronizing a gradient generator by making its recompression volume equal to that of a high pressure pump.
      SOLUTION: The high pressure reciprocating pump is structured so that its check valve remains closed in the initial period of the pumping stroke of the first piston in which the fluid is compressed with a finite modulus of elasticity by volume and the second piston shares all flow at a fixed rotating speed. If then the pressure in the cylinder of the first piston once reaches the pressure of exhaustion and a discharge check valve is opened, the control system is changed over into the constant pressure control mode so as to maintain the rate of flow to the fixed value. When the discharge check valve of the second piston is closed and the pump control returns to the fixed rotating speed, the constant pressure control is switched off again. Determination of the angular displacement for making valid the changing-over of the control modes is executed by monitoring the discharge pressure and accommodating the value of angular displacement in which the first-grade time differential of the pressure changes remarkably.

SOLUTION: During the initial portion of the pumping stroke of a first piston in which fluid is being compressed due to its finite bulk modulus of elasticity its check valve remains closed, a second piston provides all the flow required at a fixed rotational speed. Then, once the pressure inside the first piston's cylinder has reached that of the discharge and its discharge check valve opens, the control system switches to a constant-pressure control mode, thereby maintaining the flow rate at a fixed value. Constant-pressure control is again switched off when the second piston's discharge check valve closes, and pump control returns to fixed rotational speed. Determining the angular displacement at which to effect these control-mode switches is carried out by monitoring the discharge pressure and storing the values of the angular displacement at which the first temporal derivative of pressure changes rapidly.
