SOLUTION: The number of step motor cycles (Mo; Mx) needed for an exposure head holding body to travel through a reference section parallel to the feed direction is measured. An optimum number of step motor cycles (Mo; Mx) per one revolution of an exposure drum is adjusted during a calibration period and the number of step motor cycles (Mo) needed to travel through the reference section is determined. During an operation period, the number of step motor cycles (Mx) needed to travel through the reference section is determined, and a corrected number of step motor cycles (Kk) per one revolution of the exposure drum is determined in accordance with formula of Kk=Ko×Mx/Mo. The temperature of the structural members involved in the measurement is kept constant by a temperature controlling system.
