    • PURPOSE: To obtain the titled compound on an industrial scale, at a low cost, by heating 2-{β-imidazolyl-(1')}-ethyl-4,6-diamino-s-triazine together with powdery or granular heat transfer medium in the presence of a polymerization inhibitor under reduced pressure.
      CONSTITUTION: The objective compound of formula II useful as a comonomer can be produced from an inexpensive raw material with simple operation, in high yield, and accordingly by a method suitable for the practice on an industrial scale, by heating the compound of formula I together with a powdery or granular heat transfer medium such as quartz sand, sea sand, river sand, glass powder, silica powder, alumina powder, iron powder, copper powder, etc., in the presence of a polymerization inhibitor such as sodium sulfide, potassium sulfide, hydroquinone, copper sulfate, β-naphthylamine, etc., under a vacuum of 5W20mmHg at 80W320°C. The compound of formula I used as the starting compound can be pro- duced easily from acrylonitrile, imidazole and dicyandiamide by conventional method.
