    • PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an ultraviolet-shielding material having, despite having an excellent ultraviolet-shielding effect, an excellent dispersibility within an aqueous solvent and an excellent transparency.SOLUTION: In a case where an ultraviolet-shielding material is manufactured by a method comprising: a synthesis step of synthesizing a suspension including titanium oxide nanotubes based on a hydrothermal synthesis treatment of titanium oxide; a dispersion step of dispersing the titanium oxide nanotubes by adding beads to the titanium oxide nanotubes and then agitating the titanium oxide nanotubes and the beads; and an ultrasonic treatment step of irradiating ultrasound onto the titanium oxide nanotubes; and then dispersed within an aqueous resin or latex, it becomes possible to provide a coating material capable of simultaneously realizing an advanced ultraviolet-shielding effect and transparency by virtue of the dispersion, within the aqueous resin or latex, of titanium oxide nanotubes whose tube lengths are longer than 150 nm and shorter than 1000 nm.
