    • PURPOSE: To obtain high-purity butadiene, by subjecting a mixture of 4C hydrocarbons prepared by decomposing thermally petroleums or dehydrogenating butane-butenes using an improved selective solvent consisting of ethylene carbonate as a main component to extractive distillation.
      CONSTITUTION: A mixture of 4C hydrocarbons obtained by decomposing thermally petroleums or dehydrogenating butane-butenes, especially a mixture of 4C hydrocarbons, obtained by hydrogenating the mixture of 4C hydrocarbons in the presence of a catalyst in liquid or vapor phase so that acetylenes are selectively hydrogenated to make an acetylene content of ≤1,000ppm based on butadiene, is subjected to extractive distillation using a selective solvent consisting essentially of ethylene carbonate preferably containing the maximum 10wt% (preferably 3wt%) water, to give high-purity butadiene. The extractive distillation is carried out by two steps, and preferably in the first step extractive distillation paraffins are removed, and in the second, acetylene.
