CONSTITUTION:The handle 3 of a moving frame 2 which is on standby at the upward start point of stairs A is pulled out by a user. Since the handle 3 is formed into a U shape and provided with holding arms 3a, 3b in a horizontal direction on both the upper and lower sides, the user can hold either the holding arm 3a or 3b on the side which suits to the user's height. A start switch 20 is automatically switched on, and a motor is driven. The moving frame 2 moves toward the top of the stairs. The user is pulled by the driving frame 2 to assist his traveling. When the user releases the hand from the handle 3, the start switch 20 is switched off to stop the moving frame. Therefore, the user also can take a rest on the way.

A return passage of a handrail 6 is set down to a locus along these slope ways B, D, but at a return passage F in a part of the intermediate horizontal passage C, the side of the slope way B is formed into such a gentle slope way as situated one step lower. At a projecting bend part, a guiding rotor 7 is supported on the surface side of the handrail 6 and at a recess bend part, a rotor 8 comes into contact with the inner circumferential side and supported as well. Consequently, the return passage side of the handrail 6 is formed into a smooth, gentle slope way owing to the horizontal part C so that running resistance is reduced, while rainwater penetrating into an upward opening is made to flow down to the lower part, thus a slip or the like due to the rainwater is prevented.

This unusual feeling causes the passenger to take attention, and accordingly, he stops his useless motion. As a result, it is possible to prevent occurrence of such an accident that a passenger falls down and so forth since he stands straddling between two step plates 4 when the step plates 4 are shifted into the inclined way A or C from the horizontal way B.

In this case, the position of the footboards of the traveling route in the turning part is slightly lowered so that persons or articles transferred on the footboards on the outward side or the inward side of the traveling route can be smoothly shifted from the footboards of the traveling carts onto the fixed boards 7, and that the footboards moved to the turning part can successively slide into the underside of the fixed board 7.

Then, front and rear carts 5 become mutually oscillatable in the lateral direction to the spherical bearing 57, and further a bodies cart frame 54 provided with a traveling wheel 56 is arranged in the connecting part of the carts 5, so that the load put on the front and rear carts 5 can be supported, and also the cart frame 54 can be freely oscillated in the curved route part of a traveling rail 3 within the allowable oscillating range in accordance with the radius of curvature, and further footboards 6 mutually slide, and the wheel 56 always follows up the rail 3.
