    • PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To record data which is reproduced smoothly in the outermost periphery of an optical disk in a disk unit. SOLUTION: The disk unit 1 is equipped with; an optical pickup 4 which irradiates an optical disk 2 with a laser beam; a reproduction signal detection circuit 5 which detects a reproduction signal during reproduction of data; a modulation detection section 6 which detects modulation from the reproduction signal; an asymmetry detection section 7 which detects asymmetry from a reproduction signal; and a control section 8 which controls power and a pulse width of the laser beam based on the modulation and the asymmetry. The control section 8 increases laser optical power when the modulation is smaller than 0.6, and controls to expand a cooling pulse width when asymmetry is smaller than -0.05. Thereby, the disk unit 1 can record data which is reproduced smoothly regardless of a data recording position or tilt of the optical disk 2. COPYRIGHT: (C)2008,JPO&INPIT

    • PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To calculate a setting value to a laser drive circuit for obtaining a laser beam having a prescribed irradiation power using a calibration coefficient indicating a manufacturing error. SOLUTION: In an optical disk device 1 provided with a laser drive circuit 16, a laser diode 8 emits a laser beam, a front monitor photodiode 9 receives the emitted laser beam and generates a light receiving signal, the APC part of the laser drive circuit 16 compares the generated light receiving signal with a target value relative to irradiation power predetermined in the emitted laser beam, controls drive of the laser diode 8 so as to coincide with the target value.
