    • PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a liquid crystal composition capable of preventing display quality from deteriorating under the influence of moisture, ionic impurities, etc., present on the interface between a liquid crystal and an alignment film.
SOLUTION: The liquid crystal composition is characterized in containing a liquid crystal material and an amphiphile, and the liquid crystal layer 50 of a liquid crystal device is formed of the liquid crystal composition. Thus, the liquid crystal composition contains the amphiphile to remove the moisture and ionic impurities interposed in surfaces of inorganic alignment films 16 and 22 and then problems of an alignment defect (hindrance to a pretilt) and burning due to the moisture and ionic impurities are solved. The amphiphile is preferably a substance which does not have a polarity in a molecule, i.e. a substance having an ether bond such as polypropylene glycol, polyethylene glycol, crown ether, and cryptand.
