摘要： PURPOSE:To assure the stabilization of the characteristics of a lubricating surface and the uniform contact with a magnetic head. CONSTITUTION:The lubricating layer is formed at about the thickness of the molecular layer on the surface of a carbon layer 3 of the magnetic recording medium having a magnetic recording layer 2 of a metallic thin film type, the carbon layer 3 having wear resistance and the lubricating layer 4 and thereafter, the surface thereof is subjected to a sliding friction treatment by a grinding treatment surface and the lubricating layer is formed thereon at about specified thicknesses or below. The lubricating layer is otherwise formed at the specified thickness or below on the surface of the recording layer 2 and is then subjected to the sliding friction treatment by the grinding treatment surface. The carbon layer 3 and the lubricating layer 4 are successively formed thereon.

As a result, the recording and reproducing characteristics excellent over the entire wavelength region are obtd. in order to efficiently pass the magnetic fluxes from recording magnetization. Since the direction 5 of the axis of easy magnetization is in a diagonal direction, the spacing losses are decreased.

摘要： PURPOSE:To obtain an excellent magnetic recording medium showing less missing of signal by winding the medium with a takeup roll through the process for heating the magnetic recording medium supplied from a supply roll and the process for polishing the surface of magnetic recording medium. CONSTITUTION:The surface of a magnetic recording medium 2 is polished with a sharp blade 1 and the medium is heated, by a heater lamp, from the surface of the magnetic recording medium 2 opposed to the slidable contact surface of blade 1. When the magnetic recording medium 2 is heated with the heater lamp 7, a stress accumulated within the magnetic recording medium 2 with a shape transfer is alleviated and the transferred shape can be initialized. Simultaneously, protections at the surface of the magnetic recording medium 2 can be removed by polishing the surface of magnetic recording medium 2 with the blade 1. Therefore, even when the magnetic recording medium 2 is taken up by the takeup roll 4 after these processes, since projections are already removed, the shape transfer is never generated at the surface. Thereby, the magnetic recording medium 2 which does not show any missing of signal can be obtained.
