SOLUTION: An intake device for a four-cylindered internal combustion engine, which divides an straight-type four-cylindered internal combustion engine into two cylinder groups of which intake strokes do not occur in succession in the respective groups, comprises a first to a fourth independent intake passage 21, 22, 23 and 24, a first and a second resonance chamber 31 and 32 where the independent intake passages converge for the two cylinder groups, a first and a second resonance passage 41 and 42 extending upstream from the first and the second resonance chambers respectively, and a converging chamber 50 where the first and the second resonance passages converge. The arrangement and form of the first and the second resonance chambers, the downstream orientation of the first and the second resonance passages, and the arrangement of all the first to the fourth independent intake passages having proper curvatures which are not excessively small are made compact to ensure uniform and sufficient charging efficiency to the cylinders.

摘要： PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To carry out supercharging while using a dynamic effect of intake air and to accomplish reduction in intake resistance and improvement in a distribution property. SOLUTION: A multiple cylinder engine is provided with a series of intake system consisting of an air cleaner 5, a common intake passage 3, an throttle body 4, and an intake manifold 2. The intake manifold 2 is constructed of a surge tank 6, independent intake passages 7a-7d, and a resonance chamber 8. The capacity of the surge tank 6 is reduced as against that of the resonance chamber 8, and a high output is obtained over the whole rotation area of the engine by means of a combination of an inertia supercharging effect and a resonance supercharging effect. The surge tank 6 is formed into a fan shape which is spread from the connecting part with the common intake passage 3, while the independent intake passages 7a-7d are fan-shapedly arranged similarly, so that intake resistant can be reduced and an intake distribution property can be improved.
