    • PURPOSE:To obtain the present copolymer excellent in adhesivity, resistance to oil, weather and ozone, by chlorinating an ethylene-based copolymer in an aqueous dispersion in three steps under each specified condition. CONSTITUTION:An ethylene-based copolymer from ethylene and an alpha,beta-unsaturated dicarboxylic acid(anhydride) with 0.5-25mol.% copolymerization ratio of the alpha,beta-unsaturated dicarboxylic acid and the anhydride thereof and 0.1-100g/10min melt flow index is contacted with gaseous chlorine in an aqueous dispersion. In this case, the first step chlorination is carried out so as to be 20-60% of the total chlorination at such temperature as to be >=50 deg.C but at least 25 deg.C lower than the melting point of said ethylene-based copolymer followed by the second chlorination so as to be >=30% of the remaining chlorination and 60-90% of the total chlorination at such temperatures as to be at least 10 deg.C higher than that of the first step but 5-15 deg.C lower than the melting point of said ethylene-based copolymer. In the third step, the remaining chlorination is subsequently carried out at such temperatures as to be lower than the melting point of said ethylene-based copolymer but higher than those by 2 deg.C lower than the melting point of said ethylene-based copolymer, thus obtaining the objective chlorinated ethylene-based copolymer with 5-45wt.% chlorine content and >=5 Mooney viscosity (ML1+4, 100 deg.C).

    • PURPOSE:To obtain a copolymer having excellent ozone resistance, flame retardancy, heat resistance, wheatherability, mechanical strength and adhesiveness, by bringing at first a specified ethylene copolymer into contact with chlorine in an aq. suspension at a specified temp. to chlorinate the copolymer in part, annealing the mixture at an elevated temp. and then chlorinating the rest. CONSTITUTION:An ethylene copolymer of an MFR of 0.1-100g/10min is obtd. by copolymerizing ethylene with 0.5-25mol% alpha,beta-unsatd. dicarboxylic acid (or anhydride), etc., [e.g., maleic acid (or anhydride)]. Then, this copolymer is brought into contact with chlorine in an aq. suspension obtd. by suspending this polymer in an aq. medium by using a small amt. of an emulsifier, etc., at a temp. at least 20 deg.C lower than the m.p. of the copolymer and 50 deg.C or higher to chlorinate 20-60% of the copolymer. Then, in the second stage, the temp. is elevated to a temp. 1-10 deg.C higher than the m.p. of the copolymer and annealing is performed without introducing chlorine for 10-60min. In the third stage. chlorination of the rest is carried out at a temp. 2-20 deg.C lower than the m.p. of the copolymer to obtain the title copolymer having a chlorine content of 5-45wt.% and a Mooney viscosity (ML1+4, 100 deg.C) of 5 or larger.
