    • PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a signal generation circuit for reproduction control that can generate a signal for reproduction control correctly even if an optical disk has a defect on a surface.SOLUTION: In the signal generation circuit for reproduction control, an amplifier 1 amplifies an electric signal input from a light receiving element 1000 which photoelectrically converts the intensity of reflected light from the optical disk, an upper detection circuit 2 detects an upper envelope of an output signal A of the amplifier 1, and outputs an upper envelope signal B, a lower detection circuit 3 detects a lower envelope of the output signal A of the amplifier 1, and outputs a lower envelope signal C. An AD converter 4 outputs upper envelope data D generated by converting the upper envelope signal B into a digital signal, and an AD converter 5 outputs lower envelope data E generated by converting the lower envelope signal C into a digital signal. A digital signal processing circuit 6 performs arithmetic processing using the upper envelope data D and lower envelope data E, and outputs a signal for reproduction control used to control reproduction of data recorded on the optical disk.

      SOLUTION: A magnetic disk device 10 executes test write before storing system information, and inspects the state of each head.       SOLUTION: The method of examining a storage disk includes the steps of: executing a writing operation and a reading operation in sequence to a plurality of recording tracks 31 to 35 at first intervals so as to detect a defect in the recording tracks based on the quality of a read signal; extracting a recording track 41 spaced by a second interval D2 larger than a first interval from the last recording track 35 of the sequence; and specifying the plurality of recording tracks 42 to 45 from the recording tracks. Thus, a defect is surely detected without increasing the total number of recording tracks to be examined.
