    • PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a reformer which, in spite of having a compact structure, can effectively increase the surface area of a catalyst coming into contact with a raw fuel to improve a reforming efficiency.
      SOLUTION: The reformer 22 is provided with first and second reforming vessels 106 and 108 laid on each other. A first hole 114 is formed in the center of the first receiving member 110 constituting the first reforming vessel 106, whereas a plurality of second holes 116 are formed around the outer circumference of the second receiving member 112 constituting the second reforming vessel 108, whereupon a meandering reforming passage 120 is constituted from them. A plurality of catalyst pellets 118 are arranged in a single layer in each of the first and second receiving members 110 and 112, and the both end surfaces of each single layer of the catalyst pellets 118 come into substantial contact with the first and second receiving members 110 and 112.
