    • PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To accurately and stably keep a separation distance between a label held on a labeling means and a labeled surface of a labeled object at a specified interval. SOLUTION: This labeler 10 includes the labeling means 12 for holding the label L, a driver 13 for supporting the labeling means 12 and also moving the means 12 in a directions away from and closer to the labeled object C, and a separation distance keeping means 14 for keeping the separation distance D between the label L held by the means 12 and the labeled surface C1 of the labeled object C at a specified interval. The separation distance keeping means 14 is mounted on the labeling means 12 and provided to be movable together with the labeling means 12. The means 14 includes a contact 46 displacing when in contact with the labeled surface C1 and a single sensor 47 for detecting the displacement of the contact 46, and is structured to stop the movement of the labeling means 12 by detecting the position of the contact 46 when the distance D is set at the specified interval.     • PURPOSE:To lengthen the life of a thermal head, to prevent faulty printing and to shorten printing time by a method wherein the head is contacted when the thermal head is electrically conducted, and the head is separated and a label is fed quickly when the head is not conducted. CONSTITUTION:The labels 1 are pasted on pasteboard in freely exfoliative manner, passed through a label detector 13 and forwarded to a printing position by means of a stepping motor. When the thermal head 3 contacts with the labels, pulse-shaped voltage information-processed from a printing controlling mechanism 5 is applied to a conduction circuit. The head is contacted with the labels by means of a solenoid 14 at that time, but the head is separated from the labels by means of a coil spring 16 when currents are not conducted. Accordingly, the degree of wear of the thermal head is reduced, and the labels can be printed distinctly. A label feeding mechanism 4 supplies the labels intermittently bit by bit when printing, and feeds them quickly until label detecting signals enter, thus allowing printing at high speed.
