SOLUTION: In a method for operating a solid high-polymer fuel cell system 100 in which raw fuel including mainly hydrocarbon and containing sulfur is reformed with steam so as to prepare reformed gas containing mainly hydrogen which then acts as anode gas for a solid high-polymer type fuel cell, the content of sulfur contained in the raw fuel 2 is desulfurized to 1 vol.ppb or less (preferably, 0.1 vol.ppb or less), followed by steam reforming, thereby obtaining reformed gas. The reformed gas is supplied to the solid high-polymer type fuel cell, thus allowing the solid high-polymer fuel cell system 100 to be operated. The steam reforming is performed in a reformer in S/C of 0.7-3.0 in the case where the number of mol of steam per 1 mol of carbon in the raw fuel 2 is represented by S/C.

Then, cooling water is supplied to the condenser 20 to be stored and forcibly fed to the connection part 8w by means of a cooling water pump 26 so as to be fed to respective cells C, while impurity metal ions are deposited so as to be eliminated.

CONSTITUTION: A catalyst for reducing NOx contains at least a crystalline metallosilicate in which at least one metal selected from Mn, Co, Ni, Ag, and In is ion-exchanged and has specified pares. Since the catalyst uses a metal of low hydrocarbon oxidation activity, high selectivity for reducing NOx is obtained. Moreover, since the catalyst is constituted from specified pores, and metal ions (active points) existing in the depth of the pores can be used effectively, high NOx reduction activity can be obtained even at low temperatures.
