    • PURPOSE:To prevent the influence of a dark current to a radiation detector for X-ray CT combined a scintillator with photodiodes of an inverse bias state by providing sensitive areas for measuring photoelectric current and for measuring dark current on the photodiode substrates in the detector. CONSTITUTION:P type silicon areas 14a and 14b are selectively formed on a common silicon base plate 13 and P-N junction diodes D1 and D2 are provided. The photodiodes D1 and D2 are formed in such a way that, of the P-N junctions J1 and J2, the junction J1 is for a sensitive area for measuring photoelectric currents which receives a light from a scintillator 1 and the junction J2 is for a sensitive area for measuring dark currents, which is covered with a light shielding member 16 and X-ray shielding member 17. Since the diodes D1 and D2 are provided on the same base plate, a photoelectric current which is not influenced by a dark current can be measured at the time of scanning a patient, since the dark current S' by the diode D1 can be found from S'=S01/S00 even if the temperature changes from the patient registering time to the patient scanning time. The S10 and S00 and S01 respectively represent the dark current values measured by the diodes D1 and D2 at the patient registering time and the dark current value measured by the diode D2 at the patient scanning time.

    • PURPOSE:To obtain an auxiliary detector with a high absorption dose, a better S/N ratio and a better linearity, by setting individual thicknesses and all X-ray absorption doses to meet a fixed requirement. CONSTITUTION:An auxiliary detector 5A corrects variations in X-ray dose in the direction of projection to combine a noise component by a main detector 2 and a noise component by the auxiliary detector 5A, resulting in degraded S/N ratio. To hold the noise component within an allowable range, the noise component by the auxiliary detector 5A should be reduced by increasing the total X-ray dose to be absorbed by the auxiliary detector 5A. On the other hand, the larger the thickness the worse the pulse response, which degrades the linearity of the output to the input. So, the auxiliary detector 5A is made up of a desired number of detector cells to ensure that individual thickness are barely within allowable range of pulse response while X-ray absorption dose as a whole is equal to that required or larger than that.
