摘要： PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To obtain a polymer composition which is useful as a polymer nanocomposite having high tensile strength, flexural modulus, and tensile stress by compounding an organoclay which is the ion-exchanged reaction product of a smectite clay and specified amounts of a quaternary ammonium compound and an anionic organic material with a polymer. SOLUTION: This composition comprises (I) an organoclay which is an ion- exchanged reaction product of (a) a smectite clay, (b) at least one quaternary ammonium compound in an amount of from about 20% to about 200% of the cation exchange capacity of the smectite clay, and (c) at least one anionic organic material in an amount of 1-100% of the cation exchange capacity of the smectite clay and (II) a polymer, Preferably, the organoclay is an ion- exchanged reaction product obtained by the reaction and intercalation of at least one smectite clay having a cation exchange capacity of at least 50 meq/100 g-clay, at least one quaternary ammonium compound selected from among compounds represented by formulas I and II, and at least one anionic organic material, In the formulas, HT is a hydrogenated tallow.

SOLUTION: The modified sheet silicate (C) consists of 100 pts.wt. sheet silicate (A) and 20-1,000 pts.wt. polyester resin (B) having dicarboxylic acid residue having a metal sulfonate group as a substituent, wherein the dicarboxylic acid residue consists of 15-100 mol% arom. dicarboxylic acid residues and 85-0 mol% other dicarboxylic acid residues, and a diol residue consisting of 20-100 mol% alkylene glycol residues and 80-0 mol% other diol residues. The modified sheet silicate C is obtd. by mixing the sheet silicate A with the polyester resin B in water and subsequently drying the mixture. The modified sheet silicate C is mixed with starting materials for a polyester resin and is subjected to a melt polycondensation reaction to obtain the objective polyester resin compsn. (D) in which the sheet silicate is satisfactorily dispersed.
