    • PURPOSE:To realize an audio reproducing device capable of being shared by people having difficulty in hearing without defects of information by compressing wide band voice signals into the audible frequency range left to the people having difficulty in hearing with a range compression technique before outputting. CONSTITUTION:A audio information input section 1 converts sound wave information such as a microphone, into the corresponding electric signals with a sound-electricity converter 11 to input the information into a frequency band compression section 2 through an amplifier 12. The frequency band compression section 2 performs frequency conversion of the input audio signal with a band compressor 21 according to a compression rate set in a compression setup technique 22. The compression rate may be fixed for a particular person having difficulty in hearing, while the value may be variable by the user. Audio signals compressed in a defined band are then entered to a frequency characteristic adjusting section 3, where the amount of adjustment for each frequency and the total shape of the characteristic curve are adjusted to be set to an audio information output section 4.

    • PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a binaural hearing aid system which preserves directional cues in received sound signals.SOLUTION: Each of a first hearing aid and a second hearing aid comprises: a microphone and an A/D converter for providing a digital input signal in response to received sound signals; a compressor for compensating for dynamic range hearing loss on the basis of a signal level; a processor that is configured to process the digital input signal into a processed digital output signal in accordance with a selected signal processing algorithm; a D/A converter and an output transducer for converting the processed digital output signal into an acoustic output signal; and a transceiver 22 for data communication with the other hearing aid. A gain of the compressor of the first hearing aid is controlled by a signal having a value that is substantially equal to a value of a signal controlling a gain of the compressor in the second hearing aid, whereby a sense of direction is maintained.
