    • PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a drive device which realizes a high-speed and high- accuracy light control of a light-emitting element.
      SOLUTION: A photo diode 11 for monitor receives light of a laser diode 12 and generates a current Im corresponding to the light output. The current Im is converted to a monitor voltage Vm in a current/voltage conversion circuit 13, and the waveform is smoothed by a first low-pass filter 14 to be the average value Vav including ripple components for monitor. A light power setting voltage Vps, which is generated by a variable DC voltage source 25 and is not modulated yet, is modulated in a pulse modulation circuit 22 from a data signal delayed by a given time and smoothed through a second low-pass filter 23 and a third low-pass filter 24. Hence, synchronized with the average value Vav, a light power setting voltage Vref having approximately the same amplitude as the average value Vav and the ripple components is generated.

After this current is detected as the mean value or peak value by a bias current control circuit 5, it is compared with the reference voltage, and amplified, thereby controlling the bias current. As a result, the light output of the laser is stabilized. The bias current is applied to a signal pulse current control circuit 8. The circuit 8 controls the signal pulse current in response to the magnitude of the bias current, thereby preventing the decrease of the light erasing rate.
