    • PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a liquid crystal display which prevents display unevenness without deteriorating responsiveness and secures configurational stability. SOLUTION: A liquid crystal display includes: a pixel electrode substrate 10 and a counter electrode substrate 20 which are disposed opposite to each other; alignment films 31 and 32 provided for covering facing surfaces of the pixel electrode substrate 10 and the counter electrode substrate 20; and a liquid crystal layer 40 filled between the pixel electrode substrate 10 and the counter electrode substrate 20 across the alignment films 31 and 32. The liquid crystal layer 40 includes liquid crystal molecules 41 and a polymer compound 42. The polymer compound 42 is formed by polymerizing a compound having a methacrylate group and a biphenyl backbone, so that non-uniformity thereof is suppressed and alignment of the liquid crystal molecules 41 is regulated.     • PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a polyorganosiloxane used for forming a liquid crystal alignment film, having superior coatability and capable of giving liquid crystal alignment capability through irradiation with polarized or non-polarized radioactive rays, without having to conduct rubbing processings.
      SOLUTION: The polyorganosiloxane has a repeating unit represented by the general formula (1) and has a weight average molecular weight of 1,000-100,000: wherein Z represents a photosensitive group capable of causing a crosslinking reaction or an isomerization reaction, when it is irradiated with a light having a wavelength of 200-400 nm; and X represents a hydroxy group, a 1-20C alkyl group, a 6-20C aryl group or a 1-20C alkoxyl group, or may be crosslinked together with X of other repeating unit via -O-.
