    • PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a bearing device for a wheel allowing reduction of weight/size, improvement of sealing performance of a seal and maintenance of bearing performance over a long period. SOLUTION: A backup seal 19 is attached to a base part 6b of a wheel mounting flange 6. The backup seal 19 is constituted of: core metal 20 having a cylindrical part 20a press-fitted into the base part 6b on an inner side of the wheel mounting flange 6; and a seal member 21 integrally joined to the core metal 20 by vulcanization adhesion and having a side lip 21b extended to be inclined outward in the radial direction and formed into a trumpet shape having a distal end part enlarged in diameter. The side lip 19 is brought into slidable contact with an end face 3c of an outward member 3 via a prescribed interference, and therefore, even if the wheel mounting flange 6 and an end part of the outward member 3 are disposed to be separated from each other, the backup seal 19 corresponding to the space therefore can be disposed, and sealing performance of the seal 8 is improved.     • PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To realize a structure for being configured to be small with low cost and having a high degree of freedom in design, and having an excellent sealing characteristic for preventing a foreign body entering to the part where an encoder 14 and a rotation detection sensor 13 for detecting a rotational speed are installed.
      SOLUTION: A second seal lip 23 is disposed in whole circumference between an edge face 22 in the axis direction of an outer ring 9 that is a rotating side orbital ring and the outer periphery part of a holder member 15a holding the rotation detection sensor 13. Thereby, attachment of foreign bodies such as magnetic substance and the like to the encoder 14 and the rotation detection sensor 13 is prevented. To miniaturize the ball bearing 8 with the encoder and to obtain a degree of freedom in design, the rotation detection sensor 13 is supported separately from a ball bearing 8 with the encoder against non-rotating support axis 3.
