    • PURPOSE:To improve an error correction capability by discriminating data to be error data when a succeeding set of data of each data set of an offset QDPSK modulation wave is data unable to be an offset QDPSK modulation wave. CONSTITUTION:A signal fed from an amplifier 62 is fed to an 0-QDPSK demodulation circuit 71. The circuit 71 demodulates the signal synchronously with a carrier recovered by a carrier recovery circuit 72 and inputs a demodulation signal to a digital signal processing circuit 74. On the other hand, an error detection circuit 73 discriminates directly an error from an 0-QDPSK signal. In this discrimination, since a phase of a data series D1 of an 0-QDPSK modulation wave changes in a range of -pi/2 to +pi/2 with respect to a data series D0 just before the series D1, the phase is not chanted by -pi or +pi between the consecutive data series D0 and D1. Thus, the circuit 73 judges a succeeding data series being the data not in existence to be in error and gives error detection information to the circuit 74. Through the constitution above, the error correction capability is improved.

When the video signal is the normal mode, the switches SW3, SW4, SW22 are connected to the NORMAL sides and the sound signal is recorded in the normal mode.

By this method, the PCM mode is easily and securely discriminated.

    • PURPOSE:To prevent a depth recording signal from being remarkably lowered by setting a tracking point for the reproduction of a recording medium between the optimum track point of each signal track on which depth recording is performed. CONSTITUTION:A PCM signal depth-recorded on the second layer of a magnetic tape 5 is reproduced by PCM heads 3a and 3b. Also, an AFM signal depth- recorded on the third layer of the tape 5 is reproduced by AFM heads 2a and 2b. In such constitution, tracking correction is performed so as to increase the reproducing output of depth-recorded AFM signal and PCM signal as far as possible. In other words, a system controller 32 decides a practical tracking point to trace the tape 5 actually based on peak detecting signals S1 and S2 supplied from peak detectors 22 and 31, respectively. Then, a correction signal S4 is generated, and is derived to a tracking circuit 35. In such a way, it is possible to prevent the reproducing S/N of the depth recording signal remarkably deteriorating.

Then the 1st and 3rd heads 3A, 4A are used as a couple of heads of the same azimuth angle and the 2nd and 4th heads 3B, 4B are used as a couple of heads of the same azimuth angle and the tracks for 2-field recorded by a couple of head pairs are reproduced at the same time.

    • PURPOSE:To add a program searching function without providing a dedicated area for a program searching signal by making a program searching signal by inserting a pattern distinguishable from a data bit pattern into a synchronous signal section in a data array in place of a synchronizing pattern. CONSTITUTION:A data sync recording area AP1 is provided on one end part of a track to be recorded with a video signal. Then, a switch 6 is changed by the timing of AP1 so that a sync pattern is supplied from a fixed pattern generator 14. In addition, a switch 16 is changed whenever recording contents are changed, so that a sync fixing pattern for index is supplied from its generator 15 to be recorded to AP1. For this purpose, a code which is not used in a data changeover regulation is used. At the time of reproducing, a program searching bit pattern for the reproducing position is specified, and the pertinent pattern is detected from the synchronous signal section for the program searching position so that the reproducing is carried out from this position. By this method, a dedicated area for a program searching signal is omitted, and then the program searching function can hence be added.
