    • PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To enhance the workability by moderating variation in the r.p.m. of a motor when a work is started using a power tool.
SOLUTION: The trigger 3 of an electric screw driver controls start/stop and moves the sliding contact of a variable resistor 6. An integrating circuit 7 outputs the voltage V1 at the sliding contact of the variable resistor 6 to a PWM (pulse width modulation) control section 8 while correcting it to a voltage Vi lower than V1. The PWM control section 8 outputs a PWM control signal Vo based on the voltage Vi being inputted and performs switching control of a switching element 9 based on the PWM control signal Vo thus controlling the r.p.m. of a motor 1. Since the input voltage to the PWM control section 8 is corrected by providing the integrating circuit 7, the r.p.m. of the motor 1 can be prevented from varying abruptly when it is varied from a low speed to a high speed to require a large force for holding the tool or to cause a come-out phenomenon where a screw is removed.

    • PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a switch for a power tool and a power tool using the same, which switch has a function for warning a decrease in residual capacity of a battery, the function being easily understandable for an operator, and can prevent an over-discharge of the battery.
SOLUTION: The switch 31 for the power tool comprises a trigger 3 interlocked with a sliding contact point 5, a PWM control section 6 for outputting a PWM signal Vp according to a voltage V1 of the sliding contact point and a reference voltage V2, a battery residual capacity judging section 7 which judges the residual capacity of a rechargeable battery 2 by detecting the voltage Vb of the battery and outputs a port output Vm, and a switching element 13 for driving a motor 1 by a switching control signal Vo according to the PWM signal Vp and the port output Vm. The switch 31 is configured such that the motor 1 is driven by the PWM signal Vp under usual conditions, and when the residual capacity of the rechargeable battery 2 has become smaller than a first required value, the maximum rotational speed at the maximum pulled value of the trigger 3 is fixed so as to be operable and to be lower than the maximum speed, and further when the residual capacity of the rechargeable battery 2 has become smaller than a second required value, the motor 1 is cut off from the rechargeable battery 2.

    • PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a DC power supply for cordless power tools, capable of always outputting its maximum capacity irrespective of a preset output voltage value. SOLUTION: An output voltage is selected to matche a cordless power tool to be used, and a maximum output current value is set for the selected output voltage. Maximum capacity of the DC power supply is utilized, by setting the maximum output current value in such a way that, the lower the selected output voltage, the larger the maximum output current value becomes, specifically the product of the maximum output current multiplied by the selected output voltage becomes approximately constant. As long as the output current remains below the maximum output current, the connected cordless power tool is controlled by the constant voltage. If it exceeds the maximum output current, it is switched to the control by a current equal to or lower than a constant current of the maximum output current to protect the DC power supply against overload.
