    • PURPOSE:To certainly detect the terminal of recording paper by providing a round hole to roll-shaped recording paper in the vicinity of the terminal part thereof and detecting the same by a reflection type infrared sensor. CONSTITUTION:Roll-shaped recording paper 2 is wound around a winding core 1 in predetermined quantity and the terminal part 2-a thereof is fixed to the winding core 1 by an adhesive tape 3 and a round hole part 2-b is provided to the recording paper 2 in the vicinity of the terminal part thereof. In a usual thermal transfer recording apparatus, the roll-shaped recording paper 2 is held between paper feed drive rollers 4, 5 and paper feed follower rolls 6, 7 and allowed to advance in the direction shown by an arrow A to be consumed with the advance of recording. At this time, the reflection type recording paper sensor 8 in the apparatus emits infrared rays on the light emitting side 8-a thereof and takes in the reflected light from the roll-shaped recording paper 2 on the light detecting side 8-b thereof to generate sensor output. Next, when the roll-shaped recording paper 2 is consumed and the round hole part 2-b reaches the position directly under the recording paper sensor 8, the infrared rays emitted on the light emitting side 8-a pass through the round hole part 2-b of the roll- shaped recording paper 2 and the reflected light is not incident to the sensor on the light detecting side 8-b thereof and, as a result, the output of the sensor becomes zero and the detection of the terminal of the roll-shaped recording paper becomes possible.

In the case of thermal recording, the ink paper cassette 5 is unnecessary, so that the recording mode detecting switch 10 opens to give a command for a thermal recording mode to the head 11.
