    • PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To obtain a negative pole material of a lithium secondary cell containing expanded graphite particles having improved properties such as degradation in workability of slurry used as the negative pole material of the lithium secondary cell, orientation of particles in the plane direction of a collector, degradation in cycle characteristics and increase in irreversible capacitance, to provide the expanded graphite particles and a suitable producing method of the particles, to provide a negative pole of the lithium ion secondary cell which is obtained by using the negative pole material of the lithium secondary cell above described and which has high capacitance for charging and discharging and excellent cycle characteristics and to provide the lithium secondary cell using this negative pole. SOLUTION: The expanded graphite particles have 0.3 to 0.8 bulk density. In the producing method of the expanded graphite particles, source material graphite particles having an aggregated or bonded structure of plural planer particles with nonparallel orientation planes are treated with an acid to form an interlayer compd., and then, the obtd. compd. is heated and expanded. A negative pole material for a lithium secondary cell contains the expanded graphite particles above described, and a negative pole for the lithium secondary cell is produced by forming layers of the negative pole material for the lithium secondary cell above described on a negative pole collector. The lithium secondary cell consists of a positive pole and the negative pole for the lithium secondary cell above described.
