    • PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a drum type washing machine, simplifying a damping mechanism constructed between a water tank housing a rotary drum and a casing in a space-saving manner, and restraining noise in switching the damping force of the damping mechanism, and a damping force control method of a damping mechanism used in the drum type washing machine.
      SOLUTION: When the vibrating state of the water tank is in the resonant state, an electromagnetic clutch 23 (an interrupt means) is put in the connecting state to connect a link 21 and a link 22 to each other, thereby causing a damper 17 to work. When the vibration of the water tank is in the stationary state, the electromagnetic clutch 23 is disconnected to break off the link 21 from the link 22, thereby stopping the function of the damper 17. Therefore, a cylinder for switching the damping force of the damping mechanism 1 is not needed to simplify the construction and achieve space-saving. Moreover, a damping force switching type damper is not used so that noise in switching the damping force can be restrained.
