    • PURPOSE:To produce a long life plate for a lead battery without using a meshy material by packing molten lead into the spaces between porous particles of a lead oxide powder. CONSTITUTION:First, a lead oxide powder is granulated into particles 2. Next, after the particles 2 are packed into a mold 4, molten lead 5 is injected into the spaces between the particles 2 by means of a pressure injector 6 and then solidified. As a result, a support composed of lead 3 is reliably formed in which the lead oxide particles are wrapped, thereby preventing any separation of lead oxide. Furthermore, it is unnecessary to use a three-dimensional network structure used in a conventional method and also to thermally decomposed the network structure.

    • PURPOSE:To improve the utilization rate of the active material by making a plate for a clad-type lead storage battery by performing chemical formation on members connected together each of which is formed by packing a minium powder into a porous tube in the center of which a core is installed up to the lower 1/3-2/3 portion of its total length and packing a lead powder into the remaining upper portion. CONSTITUTION:After a core made of lead is installed in the center of a porous tube made of glass fiber, a minimum powder is packed into the tube up to the lower 1/3- 2/3 portion of its total length before a lead powder is packed into the upper 1/3-2/3 portion of the tube. Next, several of thus formed bodies are placed parallel to each other and then an upper strap made of lead is fused to the upper ends. After that, the thus obtained member is subjected to usual chemical formation to activate the lead powder and the minimum powder, thereby making a plate for a clad-type lead storage battery. Therefore, the proportion of beta-PbO2 contained in the active material packed in the lower portion of the plate is increased and the specific surface area of the active material packed in the lower portion is increased by subjecting the minimum powder to chemical formation. Accordingly, it is possible to increase the capacity of the whole plate by improving the utilization rate of the active material.
